Cleric  Mohamad Ali El-Husseini: Non-violence is the message monotheistic heavenly religions

Talking about the role of religions and their mission in human societies is a speech with various contexts and has mixed, variant, and overlapping trends with each other especially if the discussion takes the mode of speech heresy and intellectual deviation, where there was and there are still efforts to place the three monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) In the violence and cruelty angle. What we should draw and drive the attention to here, is that there are many wrong practices and behaviors of religion men and certain groups in the three religions in terms of urging violence and cruelty which in tern is considered by “some people” as basic or original foundations in these religions.
Research and survey in the autoimmune and objective conditions that surrounded the emergence of the Jewish, Christianity and Islamic religions raises a very important fact namely, that these religions have emerged in times of crisis where cruelty and violence were the language and logic of the prevailing humanitarian deal, these deals that caused numerous damages to the major part of their human societies; there can not be a denial of the fact that the Jewish religion had appeared and emerged after the overwhelming Pharaoh, who went too far in his practices and repressive tactics against the people of Israel, just as Christianity that came after the violence and cruelty that prevailed among people which in tern overshadowed mercy, compassion and peaceful coexistence and acceptance of others, the same as Islam has dawned and the night of violence and cruelty grinds the pre-Islamic society in the Arabian Peninsula until there was no longer existence and meaning of mercy, compassion, tenderness, love and harmony.
We should note two important points about the emergence and the rise of violence and cruelty as an approach and style in human societies. The first is that attaching the violence and cruelty to the three monotheistic religions is contrary to fact, reality, and history and this is discordant to them both in details or altogether. Where as the cruelty and violence methods and approach, has a very close relationship with the history of kings, emperors, dictators and rulers who were the core and the foundation and the first floor in establishing the principle of violence in communities.

The second point which is very important to note is precisely the need for separation of non-violence as heavenly approach and non-violence as pure human approach; here in, the followers of the three religions have dealt with the general public taking violence as the principle in order to implement their project and impose their hegemony, and this is basically for political, economic and social reasons and goals which are in tern intertwined with each other.
The three religions has been consistently calling for love, tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and renunciation of violence and cruelty and using repressive means; none of the prophets Moses, Jesus and Muhammad, peace be upon them, were as individuals cruel or selfish or autocratic, but quite the contrary, they were living examples of love, kindness, softness and gentleness, and deprived themselves to the fullest extent possible. Today, in light of current events and divergent developments battering the world, and the pursuit of many of the extremist organizations to impose violence as an approach and style and falsely claim that this is religions’ approach and style; What is required is to address this anomaly and values that seek to distort the teachings and noble thoroughbreds of the three monotheistic religions from their original contexts, and keen clerics of the three religions are needed to work hard to reflect the fact that the message of the three monotheistic religions were and will remain non-violence and call for peace, love and peaceful coexistence.
Cleric Mr. Mohamad Ali El-Husseini, Secretary-General of the Arab Islamic Council in Lebanon.
